This is a competition submission for "Detroit by Design 2012". The project boldly reconfigures traditional urban power structures by giving prime riverfront real estate to those in need of a home and community. The project picks up where Woodward Ave ends at Jefferson, and carries the street form through Hart Plaza and out to the water.
This linear village is composed of modular transitional housing, on-site healthcare and rooftop garden plots. Void spaces offer framed parklets for small gatherings and markets. Some of the modular units also provide urban amenities, such as cafes, public restrooms, mailboxes, winter warming huts and guest quarters for volunteers to work with teaching the homeless new skills.
